In today's Featured Friday, please welcome EPIC member and EPIC eBook Award winner, CJane Elliott! CJane lets us in to what makes her tick and more!

Introvert, extrovert, or ambivert? How has your personality shaped what you do?

I’m an ambivert. I’d say I’m about 60% introvert and 40% extrovert. My introvert side is well matched to being a writer and a counselor—both are professions where being quiet is useful. But for many years I also led courses on communication, which utilized my extrovert tendencies. I’m quite comfortable speaking in front of a room or doing a reading from one of my books. (For one situation during which my extroversion didn’t help me in front of a room, see the next question!)

What’s something you tried that you’ll never, ever try again?

When I was in my early thirties, a friend talked me into doing a stand-up comedy routine at a local club. She was an aspiring comedian and helped me write my jokes. I’m enough of an extrovert that I thought I could probably pull it off okay. As soon as I started, though, I was praying for it to be over. I’d forgotten that one of my scarring incidents was the time in 3rd grade when I told a joke to the class and no one laughed. The world is safe from me ever again trying to be a stand-up comedian.

Name a book/movie/TV show you hate that it seems everybody loves.

I hate the movie Love, Actually. I thought it was okay when I first saw it, but on rewatching it I realized that it has no strong female characters who are allowed to have a happy ending. I mean, why wasn’t Laura Linney’s character allowed to get with that gorgeous man? And then what Alan Rickman did to Emma Thompson—well, that’s just not right! So when the movie comes around every Christmas season, I do my best to ignore it and the gushing from people who love it.

What is your favorite line from a book, movie, song, or poem?

I love these lyrics from Leonard Cohen. They remind me that I don’t have to be perfect and inspire me to celebrate life no matter what.
